The Marangu Route is approx. 80km long, and is one of the most popular routes up the mountain. We trek through beautiful rainforest and skirt the base of Maundi Crater before emerging into grassland. There is a demanding climb to the summit but the views are breathtaking. Accommodation is in communal huts and our guides and porters take care of us including cooking all our meals.

TOUR HIGHLIGHTS

Trekking Kilimanjaro

BRIEF ITINERARY

Day 1, NAIROBI: Arrival day.

Day 2, NAIROBI - MOSHI: Early morning shuttle bus across the Tanzanian border to Moshi, arriving in the afternoon. There will be a briefing on our trek this evening. (BD)

Day 3, KILI TREK - MANDARA (2,725m): After breakfast transfer to Marangu gate. Commence trekking through beautiful rainforest to Mandara Hut. (BLD)

Day 4, HOROMBO HUT (3,700m): Continue our climb to Horombo Hut. Leaving the rainforest, the vegetation will change to stunted clumps of heather, 'everlasting' flowers and short tussock grasses. (BLD)

Day 5, HOROMBO: A day for acclimatisation with a walk to Point Mawenzi (4,600m). Return to Horombo Hut for the night. (BLD)

Day 6, KIBO HUT (4,700m): Set off early and continue up to the dry and rugged saddle area between the peaks of Mawenzi and Kibo. Overnight at Kibo Hut. (BLD)

Day 7, UHURU PEAK (5,895m): The final ascent starts around midnight or in the early hours of the morning. The most demanding ascent of the trek is the slow walk up increasingly steep scree to Gillman's Point (5,690m). Then continue to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. A spectacular sunrise with Africa laid out at our feet will make all the hard work worthwhile! Descend to Horombo Hut for a well-earned rest. (BLD)

Day 8, MOSHI: Descend to the park gate and transfer to our Moshi hotel for the night. (BLD)

Day 9, MOSHI TO NAIROBI: Morning public shuttle bus to Nairobi, arriving late afternoon. Tour ends on arrival. (B)
