Below you will find a detailed write-up for each of our trip styles, including the type of accommodation, transportation, highlights and group dynamics to expect. While each style is unique, they are all designed to provide an authentic adventure experience that you’ll never forget. You choose the style that best suits you.

Some G.A.P Adventures tours are like a walk in the park, while others have you trekking alpine passes and rafting raging rivers. On some you’ll find yourself enjoying a gourmet meal, while on others you’ll be camping and bargaining for your dinner in a local market.

Original adventures are for travellers seeking the authentic and unique experience only available on our small group adventures. Variety is the key on Original adventures. We epitomize the spirit of off the beaten track travel by making use of varied and interesting transportation and accommodation. These tours are the essence of the G.A.P Adventures grassroots travel philosophy.

Transportation - Anything that moves. Bus, train, plane, yacht, canoe, kayak, bike, ferry, rickshaw and good old foot power.
Accommodation - Locally owned and family run hotels, guesthouses, home-stays, yachts, and camping.
Meals - Some meals included. Plenty of opportunity to explore your own tastes.
Inclusions - Most highlights are included but there is plenty of time for personal exploration.

Roam provides the freedom and flexibility of independent travel with the security of travelling with a guide in a small group. By staying in local accommodation and using local transportation, you can experience a country and travel through it as a local. These journeys are fun, flexible and very affordable. We take care of the details, and let you decide what you want to do everyday.

Transportation - Anything that moves. Bus, train, plane, canoe, kayak, bike, ferry, rickshaw and good old foot power.
Accommodation - Locally owned guesthouses, home-stays, camping. Some rustic and multishare accommodation.
Meals - No meals included. Plenty of time to explore your own tastes.
Inclusions - You choose what to do every day with assistance from your tour leader.

Comfort is ideal for travellers looking for a little extra cushiness from their G.A.P Adventure, while maintaining the grassroots travel experience. Comfort adventures make use of upgraded hotels with continental breakfast, travel by private and first class transportation, and include your arrival transfer.

Transportation - Private van, yacht, first class buses and trains, plane, canoe, kayak, bike, and good old foot power.
Accommodation - Upgraded hotels and lodges with lots of local character, and sometimes camping.
Meals - Continental breakfast daily. Many included meals but still plenty of time to explore your own tastes.
Inclusions - Most highlights and many city tours and entrance fees.

Energetic travellers looking for a little extra excitement on their G.A.P Adventure should consider an Active adventure. Similar to G.A.P Original, Active adventures offer an authentic, cultural experience, but spend time enjoying the more active highlights of the region. Adrenaline pumping activities include whitewater rafting, trekking, mountain biking and sea kayaking.

Transportation - Anything that moves. Bus, train, plane, whitewater raft, canoe, kayak, bike, ferry and good old foot power.
Accommodation - Locally owned and family run hotels, guesthouses, home-stays, lodges and camping.

Looking for something a little more exciting than your average beach vacation or cruise holiday? Expose your family to something unique. Our family adventures takes the spirit of our grassroots travel and make it fun for both kids and adults, giving you a fantastic fun and educational experience.

If you're looking for something truly off the beaten path, an overland trip may be what you are looking for. Not for the faint of heart, these trips literally go off-road over land to allow you access to seldom-visited villages, remote vistas and beautiful scenery. Enjoy nature and camp under the stars. With these trips, the journey is as much a part of the adventure as the destination. We have specially designed G.A.P Adventures overland vehicles that ensure your safety and comfort on this camping adventure.

Many of our adventure tours, and our travellers, are independent in nature. Adding a short extension to your group adventure or visiting a special destination is no problem with Independent adventures. Services and accommodations vary for each of these options. It's said the call of the sea is strong, and we couldn't agree more. Ideal for our most curious travellers, G.A.P Adventures Expeditions take place onboard our legendary passenger ship M/S Explorer. Abundant wildlife and exploring remote destinations are the highlights of these adventures.

Transportation - 108 passenger expedition ship Explorer and 10 person Zodiac landing boats.
Accommodation - Ranges from triple cabins to suites.
Meals - All meals included on board.
Inclusions - Zodiac excursions with expeditions team.

Volunteer style tours are designed as a way to give back to the people and make a difference in the places we visit on our adventures. Experience true cultural immersion by working alongside local people to improve basic living conditions through hands-on volunteer projects. Trips are balanced with both volunteer activities and plenty time to relax and explore. After the volunteer portion of each tour, we visit some of the country's highlights.
