BRIEF ITINERARY |
Day 1 Arrive Lima: Arrive in Lima at any time.
Day 2 Cuzco: Early morning flight to Cuzco with the rest of the day to spend at leisure exploring this friendly colonial town. Wander through the cobblestone streets, nearby Inca ruins, markets, numerous museums and churches.
Day 3-4 Volunteer with Street Children: Volunteer at Inti Runakunaq Wasin, a drop in center for street children supported by Planeterra - the G.A.P Adventures Foundation. Play games, help with homework, teach English, help with the cooking, or participate in various workshops such as leather working and jewelry making.
Day 5-9 Choquequirao (4B,5L,4D): Depart Cuzco for Cachora, where we start our trek up to the spectacular but long-forgotten Inca city of Choquequirao. Built atop a mountain high in the Andes, the lost city of Choquequirao is comparable only to Machu Picchu in its beauty, grandeur and architectural achievement. Our local guides take care of you while camping and for the duration of the hike. Walk through breathtaking scenery on every step of this ancient Inca trail. On Day 9 return to Cuzco.
Day 10 Cuzco: Relax, explore the city or shop for souvenirs in the colourful Cuzco markets. Other options include visiting nearby spiritual sites of Sacsayhuaman and Tambo Machay, rafting, horseback riding and mountain biking.
Day 11-12 Community Volunteer Project (2B,2L,2D): Spend two days in this rural community, home to Inca Trail Porters and a women’s weaving cooperative developed and supported by Planeterra. Participate in the daily life of local families. Activities may include planting, maintaining or harvesting crops, learning to weave, building construction and visiting the local school.
Day 13 Sacred Valley/Aguas Calientes: After saying goodbye to our host families we travel through the Sacred Valley to the picturesque town of Ollantaytambo where we board the train that takes us to Aguas Calientes.
Day 14 Machu Picchu/Cuzco: Today we visit Machu Picchu with early morning views of the lost city of the Incas. Join a guided tour of the ruins, with plenty of free time afterwards to explore on your own. Return to Cuzco by train for our farewell dinner.
